Yesterday, the run of “Willy Wonka” at Farragut High School came to a close. We hosted a bit of an encore performance at our house in the form of a cast party that went well into the night.
Cast and crew members enjoyed munching on snacks and watching a DVD of Friday night’s performance. It was really something to sit in the other room and hear nearly 40 teens singing in unison to many of the familiar tunes from the show.
Our house was ‘decorated’ like a candy shoppe with assorted Willy Wonka candy treats scattered around. It looked like the Candy Man, himself, had paid us a visit.
The Wonka show was great. I personally noted how each of the kid/contestants (Veruca, Augustus, Mike, Violet and, of course, Charlie) had their individual moments in the sun. In fact, it’s a great showcase for many young talents because of all the great roles - from Willy to the parents, the grandparents and, of course, Phineas Trout, the t.v. journalist.
I also enjoyed watching all the FHS students working so hard to put together an endeavor they love so passionately. Because of that passion, it’s so easy for us parents to serve as a volunteer infrastructure to support them.
The final strains of the last musical number have now faded into the echoes of other FHS theatrical productions of the past - “Cyrano,” “Grease,” “The Outsiders,” to name just a few. But soon after the first of the year, the APAC (Admirals Performing Arts Club) will add another chapter to their storied history.
