I think we participated in Cyber Monday; I’ll be able to let you know for sure in about a month!
In any case, this evening, we made a one-hour escape from Cyber Monday and the commercialism of the season. We attended the Town of Farragut’s annual ’Light the Tree’ event at Campbell Station Park. There, on a quiet, peaceful night, we welcomed the season in a meaningful way.
Many talented young performers sang songs of the season. Of course, we were particularly interested in the selections performed by the FHS Ensemble – dressed in full madrigal attire – but we enjoyed all of the lovely music.
All of the music led to the penultimate moment when Town leaders gave the word to officially turn on the lights.
We’ve enjoyed many times in Campbell Station Park over the years. We posed for Easter pictures there on two different occasions.
Paul met a school group there once for a study session. We celebrated a birthday there once. I attended Relay For Life meetings in the Farragut branch library at the north edge of the park and Holly frequents that library to this day.
This is the first time we had attended the tree lighting. We enjoyed it very much.
I think one of our goals for this holiday season is to try to engage in a few more similar events – maybe take in the Holiday Festival of Lights at The Cove Park; attend the UT production of “A Christmas Carol” at the Clarence Brown Theatre. We’ll serve as Advent readers at church. On Saturday, we’ll attend one of the FHS Madrigal dinners.
Our goal for this holiday season is to enjoy it to the fullest. Tonight, we took one step in that direction and, for an hour, we made an escape from Cyber Monday.
