Song on the Radio

Last week, I wrote about my observations and remembrances that occurred after I heard the 80s song, “Lawyers in Love.”

I got some nice feedback on that blog and, for that, I thank you.

A funny thing happened after I wrote that particular piece. And, it is something I have been working on since the day I published that edition of Coach Jeff’s Blog. After that, I got the doggone song stuck in my head and I’ve been working to get rid of it!

Not that I don’t like the song but, really, too much of a good thing…

One day last week – and mind you, I’m the least musical one of us in the house – I was singing the song under my breath. Holly caught me in the act. I NEVER do that. She was amused.

That’s how bad this case of ‘earworm’ has been.

It was so bad that, as we approached last weekend, I went online to try to find methods to eradicate the tune. One suggestion was for the afflicted to sing (or even speak) the words to the old Bangles song “Walk Like an Egyptian” - which is a song I must confess I never liked one bit.

Still, I tried speaking the ‘Ay Oh Ay Oh’ part a couple times and got no where.

I even tried my old stand-by which, for years, has been the University of Michigan fight song, “The Victors.” (Don’t ask why…it’s just a thing…) I didn’t get very far with that one, either.

So my question to you, loyal readers of Coach Jeff’s Blog is: “What do YOU do when you’ve got a song stuck in your head? 

By the weekend, my basic strategy was to flood my mind - with animal-like instincts - with music of all sorts.

Anytime I was driving around on Saturday and Sunday I had the radio going and I listened to many Songs on the Radio.

At one point, I ran across Billy Joel’s “We Didn’t Start the Fire.” That was a big help. So darn many complicated lyrics in that piece! Anyway, it started, slowly but surely, to help push the earworm on out!

Meanwhile, I have been working on our family slideshow and there are enough diverse musical clips involved that pretty soon, I’ve got a nice medley going.

The medley, occasionally, has the aforementioned Jackson Browne in the loop. But it is fading. That’s a good thing.
