It’s good to be back on the blog after a long weekend, even if the long weekend wasn’t quite long enough for some of us and if the week ahead looks to be another busy one.
All of a sudden, we woke up on Monday morning and, bam, it was September.
Labor Day Weekend, it is said, is the official end of the summer season. I agree with this and disagree at the same time. Whereas the carefree days of summer vacations, trips to the lake and days by the pool may be fading away, the summer-like heat is still with us…at least for a few more weeks.
Almost as if to serve as symbolism for the Labor Day milestone, Paul came home for the weekend. It was one last chance to hang out with pals, spend some time at home and get ready for the challenging semester ahead.
For more examples of the hand-off from summer to fall, we had the official kickoff of the college football season around the nation and just down the road. The UT Vols sent the home crowd home with a happy glow after an impressive 38-7 thrashing of Utah State.
Better to have an opening weekend win for U T rather than U Tah.
Meanwhile, the pros get started with the kickoff weekend beginning on Thursday when the Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks play host to the Green Bay Packers (the favorite team of some new friends of our’s). By the end of the week, all NFL teams will be in action, including our Tennessee Titans.
Our Labor Day Weekend was full of fun activities:
- One last watermelon of the summer season; one last bowl of fresh, ripe tomatoes plucked off the vine.
- A trip for ice cream.
- Dinner with friends.
We didn’t make it to the firework festivities downtown, but that gives us something to shoot for next year!
