Hello folks. Here we are - on the Night Before the Night Before Christmas. We’ve safely navigated 365 days to get here.
There have definitely been some bumps and bruises along the way. This has been a particularly challenging year for my family. I hope your year has been gentler.
The crazier than normal, frenetic pace of this Christmas season made the approach to this year feel different. Even still, when the sun comes up tomorrow, it WILL be Christmas Eve and our guests (Lisa’s family) WILL be arriving.
It won’t matter how busy this December was. Tomorrow afternoon, time will stand still for a little while as we renew a tradition that Lisa says goes back as long as she does (probably longer). The Byerleys have always gathered together to celebrate Christmas on Christmas Eve.
And so it will be, again, tomorrow.
Then, in the evening, her family will drive off into the night and just a little later, we’ll enjoy the second half of our Christmas Eve observance - the candlelight Christmas Eve service at our church. It’s a rich, wonderful and amazing experience each year.
If each year has a dozen fantastic days, Christmas Eve - for us - is usually one of them. In spite of the fact that 2011 has not been one of my favorite years, I full expect tomorrow will be one of my favorite days.
