Snap, Crackle, Pop (after the boom, boom, boom)

This morning, we awoke to very loud thunder and lightning. Naturally, that’s just the weather pattern you’d expect this time of year.

I turned on the television to make sure the weather wasn’t going to turn out to be too severe in our area. Turns out it was just going to be wet…and loud. Still, it’s hard to sleep through the boom, boom, boom.

Soon, I realized I should just get out of bed and not long after that I realized I was fairly hungry. Then, I remembered we stopped by Kroger last night and I bought a box of my favorite breakfast cereal - Rice Krispies.

Immediately, I went into the kitchen and poured myself a big bowl. Then, I poured on a requisite amount of milk and waited for the trademark sound.

Snap. Crackle. Pop.

There’s something comforting about that sound. Maybe it’s the anticipation of another good breakfast. Or perhaps it comes from the consistency of repeating the action hundreds of times over the years.

You pour in the cereal. You pour on the milk. You hear the sound.

According to the Rice Krispies website, this brand has been a part of the American morning routine for 80 years. I had no idea. But, it is definitely one of those brands you count on - like Quaker Oats or Campbell’s Soup or Lipton Tea.

Maybe I’m just boring. I don’t like all the exotic modern choices out there. I go old school when it comes to cereal. Would it surprise you to learn that my #2 favorite cereal is Kellogg’s Corn Flakes?

Indeed, I had a hard time last night deciding between the two boxes.

But Snap, Crackle and Pop it was - a yummy breakfast this morning (and most fitting after the boom, boom, booms that woke us up at daybreak).
