I’ve told you about Roger the Cat before. I’ve written about some of his exploits. But recently, he hasn’t been doing anything all that interesting.
He’s been really grumpy.
On the recent rainy days, he has been beside himself because he can’t go outside and explore the woods in and around our house. That’s when he really lets us have it.
On the dry days, he goes out/he comes in; he goes out/he comes in. Also, he never seems to be happy with the food situation. We have a theory that he is always angling for ‘the secret food.’ (There IS no secret food).
I was trying to come up with a plausible explanation for his recent mood swings. Could it be old age? Or maybe his animal senses tell him we’re going to have a particularly bad winter? Maybe it is something entirely different?
I think that may be what it is.
Around the time he became somewhat grouchy, things around the house were getting a little unsettled. For Holly and Lisa - the college folks in this house - it’s the end of the semester. That means papers to write (or correct), exams to take (or grade), projects to finish (or review).
Lots of 'em.
There are also the usual end of term 'sniffles,’ too. Happens every fall semester…like clockwork.
For the one high schooler in the house, Paul, there is no lack of activity right now. The end of the semester is coming, for sure, though it will arrive a couple weeks later. In the meantime, he is entering “Tech Week” for Willy Wonka. Opening night is just five days away. He’ll have busy days and late nights.
Meanwhile, he has all the other obligations of a typical high school student.
As for me, I always seem to stay busy (though busier this December than usual).
So, it occurred to me. Maybe it’s the frenetic activity around the house that seems to have agitated the Big Orange cat?
The recipe to fix that? Maybe a little holiday cheer and some well-deserved R & R. But, unfortunately, we’re a few weeks away from that.
