My Fair Lady

Mark your calendars now. The Admiral’s Performing Arts Club (APAC) at Farragut High School will present “My Fair Lady” next month.

The production will be staged in the Wells Auditorium on the FHS campus on March 8-11. Shows on March 8-10 will begin at 7:30; the Sunday March 11 show is a Sunday matinee that begins at 3 p.m.

Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students and seniors.

Tonight, the parents of cast and crew gathered for the traditional kick off parents meeting to mark the official beginning of the preparation for the show (though quite honestly, the cast and crew, under the direction of David Crutcher, have been hard at work for weeks and an army of parent volunteers will, as usual, be supporting their efforts).

I’ve told you before how strongly I believe in the notion of community service and my fellow parents at FHS wholeheartedly agree. Whether they’re volunteering for academic programs, athletics teams, the FHS foundation or one of the rich programs in the performing arts, FHS parents believe in supporting their students and teachers.

Baseball parents help with field workdays, the PTSO sponsors landscaping blitzes, the Foundation recently held a phone-a-thon to raise funds to purchase technology upgrades for the school and an army of volunteers help the FHS band set up for halftime performances during football season.

Drama parents are equally industrious and I’m proud to be a part of the team.

I believe this sort of community support is one of the many reasons this high school enjoys such success in a variety of disciplines. And tonight’s meeting was the latest tangible example. The turnout was great and enthusiasm very high.

As is tradition with the FHS drama program, there will be parents working to build sets, selling tickets and concessions at the show, assisting with costuming, serving meals to the cast and crew during tech week and, of course, helping to promote the show itself.

It’s going to be a good one, joining the strong tradition of FHS spring musicals that goes back many years and also following the recent success of fall productions, “Cyrano” and “Willy Wonka.”
