Happy Birthday Lisa!
Today is the birthday of my lovely wife. If you know her – and get a chance – wish her a very happy birthday. I can’t think of many people who’d deserve it more.
She really is a remarkable person and there isn’t a day that goes by without me thinking about how lucky I am to have found her. As proud as I am of my college degree, I know that finding Lisa - and having her agree to marry me – is the best thing that came out of my college years (or put another way…the miracle of having her agree to ‘put up with me!’).
We met in Communications History class and, well, I guess you’d say the rest is…ahem…history.
Over the years, I have watched her grow as a professional – first as a public relations practitioner for the College of Agriculture and Natural Sciences at UT and now, for the past eight years, as a lecturer in the School of Journalism. I am so impressed with how much time and care she puts into her classes and how she really sees herself as a mentor and role model for the students – particularly the young ladies – in her classes.
Many evenings end with me heading for bed and her, plugged into her laptop, working well into the night - grading papers, preparing class activities and answering correspondance.
As impressive as she is in her professional life, I also get to see her up close in her personal life. She has been – and continues to be – a wonderful mother for Holly & Paul. Even still, I often find her up early in the morning (after those late nights on the laptop) assembling a nutritious lunch for Paul or slapping on the peanut butter and grape jam for a yummy morning breakfast sandwich for Holly on those occasions when she is at home and not on campus.
She is loving and supportive of both of them. And as busy as she is, she always supported my efforts to coach Paul’s baseball teams and, more recently, to volunteer as a member of the FHS Theatre Arts Boosters board.
She’s an amazing woman and I’m very lucky to we’ve shared this fantastic life together with great plans for a wonderful future.
I love her very much.
