As I have mentioned before, we have had a busy (and somewhat unusual) summer.
Still, one of the interesting subplots at our house as we’ve written the story of the Summer of 2012 is that, despite all the hubbub, we have managed to get a number of things done around the house. From cleaning up the down-downstairs to re-organizing the guest room to putting up a new home for our bat friends, it’s been a productive summer.
One project has been looming – actually for more than a year – in our dining room. Lisa has wanted to refurbish the chairs that go with our dining room table for quite a while now.
She received our dining room set as a gift from her dad a few years ago when he and his second wife were redecorating their house. The set was somewhat of a family heirloom, passed down from Lisa’s grandparents.
The china cabinet is nice and the table is sturdy. The chairs…well…let’s just say they needed a little work. The fabric was worn (and outdated) and the foam padding was shot. The chairs weren’t very comfortable seating and they didn’t feel all that substantial.
Something needed to be done.
More than a year ago, Lisa had selected a fabric she liked (I liked it too) and actually purchased a roll of it. A couple weeks ago, she found a company that would do the refurbishing work. We loaded up all six chairs into the Jeep, along with foam and fabric and off she went.
Today, she picked up the chairs. I must say, the finished product is impressive.
They now have an off-white fabric and you can actually feel the padding. The chairs feel more sturdy, too.
I know that Lisa will be proud to show off the newly covered chairs when her family comes to visit for the annual Christmas Eve dinner. More importantly, the chairs will look nice (and feel nice) when guests sit down at the table to enjoy the meal.
As I said before, it’s been a busy summer, but a productive summer. And we just checked off another box on the 2012 to do list.
