After our weekend trip to Marshall County, MS, I think it would’ve been easy for us to all stick around for another day of fun in Memphis.
But, after two months in the desert, I think Holly was hankering for a night in her own home.
Because her flight out of Nashville wasn’t scheduled until late in the day, Sunday, she had the flexibility to do what she wanted. So, after a bit of conversation, she suggested she’d like to come home. She could:
- Sleep in her own bed
- Enjoy some comfort food
- Binge-watch episodes of Dr. Who recorded on the DVR
And, most notably, Holly could spend quality time with her cat.
From early childhood, Holly has been a cat person. Her first word: Cat. Her first pet: Cat. She once debated with her mother over the identity of a furry stuffed animal (a bunny rabbit). Eventually, they met in the middle.
Holly labelled the toy a ‘bunacat.’
You see: She’s always loved cats.
If Holly posts things online, it’s easy to say that one in three will be cat-themed. Some of her favorites are YouTube clips:
That last one - with the raccoon - is my particular favorite.
And her affinity for the rusty colored feline that prowls our home has been well documented - especially when he becomes a lap cat. This is a situation the ladies in my house have termed “C.O.L.” (cat on lap).

Holly reported one of the downsides of her time in France was a lack of cats; same goes for her time in grad school. So, having the opportunity to spend a few hours at home and hang out with her kitty was much desired.
And for the two of us, we really didn’t object at all.
