Successful Search

Today is Friday. On Monday, I will start work in a new job. That means this is the last Friday of my ‘unscheduled downtime.’

I am very excited about this new opportunity.

An employment search in the modern era is not a casual endeavor. In a way, it is a full-time job of sorts for you to get your resume seen by as many hiring managers and recruiters as possible.

I guess I’ll never know exactly how many people saw mine over the course of the last few months.

For me, the successful search was the result of a lot of hard work and was aided by a number of friends, former colleagues and co-workers, business contacts and fellow church-members. It also provided an opportunity to brush up on some skills and to learn a great deal.

I want to take this opportunity to thank as many people as possible.

A number of friends and colleagues offered tips, leads, suggestions, references, prayers and support. It would be impossible to name everyone who should be considered part of that list. To all of those folks, a heartfelt thanks.

It’s true that we all are blessed when we consider how many friends we  have. I also hope I have the opportunity to return the favor or at least 'pay forward’ some of this goodwill I’ve received.

Some friends weren’t able to provide as much assistance but they were still able to offer encouragement and that means a great deal as well.

As this first weekend of November nears, I do want to single out a few select groups for special kudos.

First, a shout out to my fellow colleagues on the PNC at Farragut Presbyterian Church. Committee members routinely prayed for me and provided weekly 'attaboys’ that helped sustain me during the search.

Secondly, I want to thank Bob Colloredo. Bob owns a local marketing firm - Colloredo and Associates -  and when he found out I was a free agent this summer, he offered me the chance to do some fun and interesting work for his agency while I searched for permanent employment. 

If you are ever in need of a communications professional to help your organization achieve its goals, I would highly recumbent Bob and his firm. He does great work and he’s a good guy.

Last but not least, I want to thank my family. It’s hard to put into words exactly how much it means to me the way stood by my side over the summer and into the fall. I know they are proud of me and that means the world. 

On Monday, a new chapter begins. I am really looking forward to the opportunity, excited about the challenging and ready to do excellent work!
