Reflections on a lovely Easter Sunday…
Our day started with a lovely church service. After church, we snapped some photos and then went to lunch. After lunch, we stopped by my folks’ house for a while and received some lovely Easter treats from my mom. Then went home in time to Skype with Holly.
These are all parts of our family’s modern Easter tradition. Skype wasn’t always a part; maybe it will be as we move forward.
In any case, our routine from yesterday follows the same script as the one for the last few years.
Our modern tradition got its start as ‘the ones’ started to grow up.
At first, they received gifts from the Easter Bunny. Later, they were old enough to search for treats left behind the bunny at events like church Easter egg hunts.
After they made it to high school, we really refined our modern tradition which exists to this day

And my mother is always so thoughtful to get for me, and my sister, yummy white chocolate confections. The kiddos receive other treats. But, at the end of the day, we are all very happy with our haul.
Then, there are the bonus treats. I had many of them yesterday afternoon.
- Baseball Game to Watch
- Nap time on the Sofa
- Grilling a succulent supper
- Nice Evening Walk
Those aren’t always present. But, when they add on to a rich, tradition-filled morning, you have the recipe for a near-perfect holiday. Sunny skies and temperatures near 80 and you’ve really got a winner.
That’s the way our day, yesterday, lined-up.
Easter, itself, delivers a profound religious message each year. Apart from that, there is also the strong family component.
Family holidays are built around tradition. We’ve always excelled at this in my family, especially at Thanksgiving and Christmas.
And over the course of the last decade, we’ve built a great Easter tradition at our home – me, Lisa and ‘the ones.’ Yesterday, it felt as warm as the skies and comfy like an Easter bonnet.
