One More Resolution

On my last entry, I listed some New Year’s Resolutions for 2012 but I left one out. I miss working in the field of public relations.

In 2012, I hope to get back there.

Four years ago, I thought I wanted a change of career. Having been away from it has confirmed the fact that I really enjoy the work. Now, I just want to get back there.

There are a number of aspects of P.R. work that I miss. For example, I miss media relations. I miss working closely with members of the media who are trying to get a story. I miss working to help them get paired with an expert on a topic. I miss the thrill of seeing my organization getting recognized through media coverage.

I miss working with subject matter experts who want to get their message out. I miss working with them and honing their message and finding the perfect communication channel to communicate it.

I miss crisis communications and rising to the challenge of meeting that moment head-first and managing the crisis with a calm, clear message.

I miss publications. I miss working with photographers. I miss advertising.

I miss creative writing. One of the real reasons I started this blog was to scratch that itch.

I miss mentoring young public relations practitioners. I miss it all.

In 2012, I hope to go back there.
