Midnight in Paris

First impression = Fabulous.

We got a very lengthy email late yesterday summarizing Holly’s “Day One” in Paris. Let’s just say, to use her phrase, “It’s beast!”

For weeks leading up to the start of her Study Abroad program, Lisa and I prayed a lot about the upcoming trip. Mostly, we prayed for her to be ‘safe, healthy and happy.’ Her email to us confirmed that those prayers had definitely been answered.

I know her mom worried about her being lonely. I worried a little bit about her mindset on the plane ride to Paris and, also, about her navigating the airport once she landed at Charles de Gaulle.

Both our sets of prayers were answered in the form of a very nice couple that Holly met. She described them as a grandmotherly and grandfatherly couple (they are from the Nashville area). She compared them, in a lot of ways, to her own grandparents (my folks). The husband was fairly reserved and the wife was extremely outgoing.

They chatted with Holly throughout the flight and insisted on helping her as she went through customs and oriented herself to the airport. The whole process went very well.

I was also a bit concerned about how the group of students would bond. I lifted up prayers on that topic as well.

Her email to us confirmed that the American students had really hit it off.

They explored the town. Many of them had lunch together. She said the area they are staying is close to the area that is featured in the recent movie, “Midnight in Paris.”

She talked about how everyone speaks English. She added that it would be hard to realize that she is actually in Europe were it not for seeing sights, such as Roman ruins, that date to the ‘B.C.’ times.

Her email to us wrapped up by saying that she is doing well and that she is very happy.

It is now Midnight in Paris on this late June date in the unique summer of 2012. What blessings! And many prayers answered.
