This has been a rich and eventful theatre season at Farragut for the members of the Admiral’s Performing Arts Company (APAC). Last night, the curtain came to a close with a memorable and moving awards night.
The night offered plenty of opportunity for praise and applause all around, with drama teacher Lea McMahan serving as emcee.
Awards were presented in the following categories:
- Best Actor, Best Actress and Best Crew Member (for “Cyrano,” “Marisol,” and “My Fair Lady”)
- Most Outstanding Performer (for two members of each of the four classes – freshman through senior)
- Community Service Awards
Ms Mac also recognized two state award winners from the recent THSSDL competition in Collierville as well as those who competed at states and those who won at district competition. Some of those state and district winners gave encore performances of their award-winning pieces.
Further, she also recognized cast members from two films produced by filmmaking classes and she also recognized cast and crew from “Willy Wonka,” which was produced by her play production class.
Students also voted for light-hearted student awards given by APAC. There was also a slideshow highlighting the many activities of a busy year. The underclassmen THEN produced a short skit to ‘roast’ the graduating seniors. Finally, the seniors took the stage one last time for a final bow to the sound of applause from parents, teachers and the underclassmen.
The 2011-12 academic year was a tremendous one – one for the books – rich in material and diverse in scope. Tonight was a fitting tribute to this year in APAC; one last salute before students and teachers (as well as parents) begin a long and well-deserved summer break.
