Brrrrrr…

So, yesterday I wrote about pro football and over the weekend, I wrote about fall break. So, today, naturally, it feels like winter.

In yesterday’s blog, I should’ve had a line about the ‘frozen tundra of Lambeau Field’ to make it official.

The cliché about weather in the Tennessee Valley is that if you don’t like the current weather, you should just wait a minute and it’ll change. I stepped outside my office just after lunch and, whammo, I got a blast of chilly air that made me want to run back inside immediately!

I think it wouldn’t be quite so bad except for the fact that our weather, yesterday, was sunny and 80 degrees. Overnight, a storm front passed through and, today, the temperatures are in the upper 40s. When I first woke up this morning, I heard the rain was really coming down. By the time I rolled out of my bed, it had tapered to a light drizzle.

Before I left home this morning, I noticed Roger the cat had been left outside all night. He was on the back porch clamoring to come inside. He was quite cross. And boy did he let me have it.

I can only IMAGINE what the feline to human translation might have been.

The thing about our weather changes…around here they seem to come in fits and starts. So, for example, it’s 48 today. But, by the end of the weekend, we’ll be back up in the 70s and it’ll stay that way for a while. Then, at some point, we’ll get another cold blast.

Once we bottom out in the winter, it’ll go that way, again, in reverse. We’ll have some warm, sunny days in January and February before temps climb back up to spring-time normals.

It’s just a hallmark of our weather patterns and the fact that East Tennessee really DOES have four distinctive seasons. But today/tonight is just raw. Sounds like it’s a pizza night to me to help warm things up!

Anyway, one of the things that is such an appeal of this area – those same four seasons – is what’s dogging us today.

Strike that last sentence. Roger really didn’t approve of that phrasing. He’s letting me hear about it again.

Dumb human.
